Facebook to Reach 1 Billion this Year
Analyst predicts Facebook 800M members would hit 1Billion by August
Facebook is gaining big. Since its launch, the social media site now has millions of people connected to their domain. This year however, the most popular social media site might just hit the one billion mark.
According to a recent study, the Facebook group would reach 1 billion members by August this year.
The prediction was made by the iCrossing global digital marketing agency. According to its senior analyst Gregory Lyons, the current growth rate of Facebook is enough to predict a 200 million growth within 7 months.
“Using a process of linear regression on the data from the end of 2008 onwards we expect Facebook to hit a billion active users around August 2012.” said Lyons, adding that Facebook is growing at an “exponential rate”. There’s been a large amount of users from various countries, Philippines being one of them. He reveals that the use of Facebook in Brazil actually more than double from 13 million to a whopping 30 million. On the other hand, Indian Facebook users grew from 22 million to 36 million.
The 200 million estimate also stems from the fact that there’s still further growth for Facebook. In fact, the 36 million users from India is only a fraction of the total population in the country, which means that there is definitely more room fro growth.
There are currently 6.9 billion people in the world and hitting the 1 billion mark only covers about 14% of the total world population. This means that given time, Facebook could cover a much wider area than originally predicted. So far, there have been no indicators that Facebook will experience a Myspace-like decline.
Considering how eager Pinoy’s are when it comes to Facebook, it’s likely that there are VERY few people who are still not members of this social media site.
