One Millionth App Take Mobile World
There is a whole lot more than calling and texting that today’s users of mobile communication devices can do with their gadgets – over a million in fact.
Just during the last week, the number of recorded applications for mobile devices has reached a million, growing ten-fold from December 2009. From sharing information and files, accessing social networking sites, tuning in to the news, to share trading and mobile banking, there are applications that enable users of mobile communication devices to do a vast assortment of activities on-the-go. According to mobile app market management company Mobilewalla, the speed by which new mobile applications are developed and assimilated by users far exceeds the development of different kinds of multi-media content. Mobilewalla founder and chairman Anindya Datta reveals that some 100 new movies and 250 new books are released all over the world every week as compared to the 15,000 apps released for the same period. On a daily basis, this number is broken down to around 745 applications for Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and a combined 20,738 applications for other devices running on Android, BlackBerry, and Windows platforms.
It was in 2008 when Mobilewalla started helping users manage their applications from searching to categorizing and ranking these applications so that users are able to get to them in a convenient manner. Datta shared that of the total number of application developers, some 80% are those that have created less than 10 applications. This is because there is not much restriction in the registration and coding of these applications. “Anyone with a good idea can outsource the code, and they own a new app,” Datta said. Apart from maintaining information about mobile device applications, Mobilewalla is set to launch efforts to track how individual apps are ranked and downloaded. The company is also looking into ways through which they can trace revenues for the individual applications. With the continuous development of mobile applications, the entire global village of mobile device users is in for a treat. Application co-founder Brad Hunstable said that the convergence of the app ecosystem will no doubt further stimulate application development.
