How Hubris Mess with Peace
As the battle rages on whose piss is higher between P’Noy and C.J. Corona, the impact of the “pissing contest” could have taken its toll on the peace and the serenity of C.J. Corona - an example of how hubris mess with peace.
Which piss takes off higher … that of P’Noy, Head of the Executive Branch of the Government or that of the Chief .Justice of the Supreme Court Corona? A definite answer for this question might come after the Senate Impeachment Trial of C.J. Corona is finished. Meanwhile, as the battle rages on whose piss is higher between the two of them, the impact of the “pissing contest” could have taken its toll on the peace and the serenity of C.J. Corona - an example of how hubris mess with peace. Merciditas Gutierrez, the former Philippines Ombudsman who likewise was impeached after two attempts of the Congressional Leaders opted to resign, instead of undergoing herself to the excruciating effects of the rigors of the Senate Impeachment.
She must have been thankful and smart of her decision that she didn’t run into what CJ Corona is going through now. She’s at peace. If she had transgressions in the performance of her duties, those have not been scrutinized and exposed by the news media. That saves her privacy intact. In C.J. Corona’s speeches, he toyed the thought of him resigning, but just that he wouldn’t want P’Noy to win again. P’Noy made the former Philippine Ombudsman, to resign, but not him. He is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the head of the Judiciary Branch of the Government, a coequal of the Executive Branch.
C.J. Corona made a calculated risk. The Law is his expertise, and assessing the impeachment complaint, he felt confident he could survive it, unscathed. He will fight to the end. C.J. Corona’s peace and serenity eluded by this conviction. As the trial goes on, his peso and dollar, accounts at the Philippines Saving Banks surfaced. So disturbed he was, he panicked, and joined into the chorus of his defense team to allege that Malacanang offered bribes of 100 million to Senators to defy the TRO issued by the Supreme Court to open his dollar account. C.J. Corona turned the table to P’Noy saying he must be the one that should be impeached. The allegation was a dud - turned out that, the Senators voted 10-13, heeding the TRO.
The people’s perceptions of C.J. Corona’s wealth bore out of dubious means reinforced the charge of betrayal of public trust. That even more damaged his reputation and disturbed his peace. The “pissing contest” between P’Noy, and the Chief Justice headed to a flashpoint when the Supreme Court issued a TRO on Department of Justice’s hold order stopping the flight of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo abroad to seek medical treatment. This culminated after a series of displeasures P’Noy had on Corona, starting from his midnight appointment as Chief Justice to the junking of P’Noy’s truth commission, which will investigate the wrongdoings of the previous dispensation.
P’Noy allies are of the opinion that Arroyo appointed Corona to the Supreme Court to protect herself from criminal prosecution. So, in a blinding speed, P’Noy was able to orchestrate the impeachment of C.J. Corona with the help of his party mates in the Legislative Branch. As C.J. Corona believes, his piss is higher than that of P’Noy, so his hubris messes with his peace and his serenity.
