Lacson Discloses Alleged P2 Billion Iggy and Mike Arroyo Accounts
Jose Pidal Revived: Lacson reveals the existence of bank accounts belonging to the former first gentleman and his brother amounting to more than P2 billion
Even with the recent death of Ignacio Arroyo, Senator Panfilo Lacson trudges on with the controversial Jose Pidal case. Lacson recently revealed the existence of documents proving that the departed Iggy Arroyo and his younger brother, former first gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo are the owners of a bank account with more than P2 billion in combined funds.
According to Lacson, the accounts are still active and are in fact stored in just one bank. More importantly, the senator points out that the accounts are not named after the controversial “Jose Pidal” moniker.
“There really has to be closure…” said Lacson after revealing the new evidence he has in possession. The senator already contacted Mike Arroyo’s lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio in accordance with the documents, asking for a written waiver over the money cited in the papers.
Although seeking closure over the still wide open Jose Pidal case, Lacson qualifies that the probe would be launched after the elder Iggy Arroyo has been buried.
During an interview with Topacio, Arroyo’s lawyer points out that Lacson’s allegations are still unproven despite his 9 years on the case. With the Jose Pidal issue investigated during 2005, the Arroyo camp is questioning why Lacson chose this moment to revive the issue. The lawyer even cited the possibility that Lacson is merely reviving Jose Pidal to detract from the Corona trial and the emerging weakness on the part of the prosecution.
In the DwIZ interview, Topacio quoted the former first gentleman as saying that if Lacson can find such deposits in existence, then he can keep the said money.
“Well, I accept the challenge.” Lacson replied to the outright challenge. The senator promised to reveal the names of the banks, the account numbers and even the account names connected to the alleged P2 billion accounts of the Arroyo brothers.
