Explosion Stuns Makati City

Blast did not kill anyone and cause still unknown

A sudden explosion was heard in Makati City, particularly in a vacant lot in Salcedo village this afternoon. The windows of five parked vehicles got shattered and their debris flew to the windows of residential and commercial establishment nearby.

The vacant lot was at the corner of Tordesillas and H.V. dela Costa streets. Police went to the area at around 2:00 p.m. The Salcedo Park condominium was the nearest residential building to the lot.

The chief of the Makati City Police Department, Superintendent Jaime Santos, said there was nothing to worry about and that no one was harmed or killed by the explosion  There were not a lot of people out on the street during the blast which prevented anyone from getting hurt, he added.

Santos said they were on red alert as it was a holiday. When the blast occurred, their Explosives and Ordinance Division immediately went to the area.  

As of press time, the authorities are investigating the site to see what caused the explosion.

The blast happened in the country’s business district as the Chinese New Year arrived
