The latest study made by Melbourne's Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre says that a simple aspirin, yes, that small pain reliever and anti-blood clotting agent, could prevent the spread of cancer cells in one's body.

MANILA, Philippines--Unbelievable but true. Medical scientists are now looking at the possibility of making aspirin--yes, that little pill that you use to relieve your headache--to cancer treatment and management. The latest discovery made by the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne is quite amazing since aspirin (generic name: acetylsalicylic acid), that little anti-coagulant and analgesic actually discovered by Hippocrates around 460 B.C and 377 B.C. and later developed into pills by scientists in the 1820s, is easy to buy and take, even without prescription.

Researcher Steven Stacker, one of the scientists who made a study about the possibility of the use of aspirin as a part of cancer cure and management said since aspirin has the ability to prevent the enlargement or the dilation of lymphatic vessels, those veins that are responsible of carrying out cancer cells on other parts of the body, it could effectively prevent the spread of cancer on different organs of the patient suffering from the disease.

It has been said that doctors have already the idea that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin has the capability of preventing the spread of cancer, this latest study of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center could be the affirmation of the potential of that small pill that is found in almost every medicine cabinet in homes, in cancer spread prevention and eventually cure. Prior this, the UK-based medical journal The Lancet also had published a study showing that daily intake of the pill could reduce the activity of cancer cells in prostate, colon, lungs, throat, and brain. However, scientists are still conducting further study on the efficacy of aspirin in combating cancer spread.
