Noypi.ph: What’s Trending Now? The President in his Office What’s Trending Now? The President in his Office ================================================================================ Chiara Marie Trinidad on 01/28/2012 06:53:00 Unflattering photo of PNoy sparks netizen’s ire If you’ve managed to go online during the week, then there’s a good chance that you’ve already seen the trending image in the Philippines today. It’s a picture of our President, Benigno Aquino III in his office with a clean desk and an ashtray by his side. With this one picture, the netizens started talking. The main opinion it seems is that his office lacks that air of “dignity” that should go with his position. Others have decided to comment on the presence of the ashtray, citing the “Anti Smoking Ban” which it seems the president himself is violating. Of course, there are those who decided to comment on what’s NOT there on the scene – a pile of papers signifying work. To point out, comments ensued that the president is obviously a “no work” leader due to his unbelievably clean desk. Malacañang Speaks Out However, Abigail Valte, Presidential spokesperson finally clears that misconception. She explains that at the end of each day, the Chief Executive’s desk is cleared out and brought back to his work home. Other reports reveal that the photo was taken before the smoking ban was placed. Another spokesperson for Aquino, Edwin Lacierda points out that a single photo is not enough to make judgments about the president’s work ethic. Earlier reports have already confirmed that the image is one hundred percent legitimate. People shouldn’t read too much about this particular image. Albeit it’s true that a single picture invokes a thousand words, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all those words are true. Should a photo of the president be released with a stacked desk, then critics will only say that Aquino is obviously someone who can’t keep his desk clean. Either way, there will be criticisms. Citizens should look beyond that image to his works before making judgments. Photo courtesy of raissarobles.com
