Noypi.ph: How to Handle Stress How to Handle Stress ================================================================================ Bennie Jane Vargas on 01/26/2012 02:18:00 It’s only the beginning of 2012 and many Filipinos are already going through so much that a nervous breakdown seems to be just around the corner. Deal with inevitable stress through this handy little manual. With 2012 barely starting, we’re already pressuring ourselves to be the best that we can be, and that in itself is stressful. However, stress can be a good thing, actually. As long as you know how to handle stress well, you can make what you’re working hard for also work for you (Does this make sense?). According to a study in Ohio State University, stress pressures your body into recovery mode by repairing wounds and amplifying the body’s immune system in preparation for incoming threats. Naturally, too much of anything is bad, so you need to know how to handle stress the right way to reap the benefits without earning a migraine. Here’s how: *Think (and Count the) Positive *This might sound absolutely cliché, but since you can’t avoid stressful situations, what you can do is to highlight all the great things that came out of them. Beside your “Things to Do Today” list you can have an “Accomplishments” for the day list. *Record and Research *It’s important to know how your stress levels are going each day, so you can rate on a scale of 1 to 10 how your day went before hitting the sack. This will help you identify when your great days are and when it’s just terrible. Then, devise a counter-tactic by researching on and inserting de-stressing activities into your schedule. *Workout *“Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy,” so says Elle Wood from the movie, Legally Blonde. Working out in the morning not only helps rev up the right kind of stress, but it helps prepare your body stand up to any challenge for the rest of the day.
