"Bourne Legacy" is expected to boost tourism in the Philippines

Now that “Bourne Legacy”, the fourth movie installment of the Bourne series, is in the Philippines, people are expecting that this would make the country be known to the rest of the world.

Twenty to twenty-five minutes of the movie have scenes shot in the Philippines according to Jun Juban, the Philippine producer of this movie.

The movie is expected to be a global hit thus tourism dollars are also predicted to pour in. This is based on the experiences of other countries in Asia that have hosted Hollywood shoots.

Even Malacañang is excited about this project as Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said “it will be a boost to tourism.”

This also shows that the Philippines is a safe place to visit according to Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino.

El Nido, Palawan will be seen in the scenes of “Bourne Legacy” and the perfection of this island is sure to bring in foreigners to the country when it is seen worldwide. Others say though that the public markets in the movie may leave a bad impression of the country thus will make other foreigners have second thoughts about coming over.

The Business Mirror presented an editorial which said government should provide incentives to encourage Hollywood producers to come to the country and shoot movies.

"Making films here would definitely result in substantial savings on the part of foreign film companies,” the editorial said. “Foreign studios are facing a cash-crunch right now because of the economic troubles in the US and Europe. They need to cut down on costs and are more open to making movies in countries where the costs are cheaper, where there are exotic sights and unique landscapes. We have all these. When many foreign film crews pick our country as their choice location, this also depicts the Philippines as a favorable destination for tourists.”
