Jinkee, Charice Mag Covers: Made Up or Make Up?
These days, it is getting to be a lot harder to tell what is real and what is not.
Take the magazine covers of the Pambansang Kamao’s wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, and international singing sensation, Charice. The two covers that hit the magazine stands instantly caused a stir in the social networking sites making Jinkee Pacquiao and Charice two of the top trending topics that day. So, what’s the fuss all about. People were reacting to how different the two celebrities look in their magazine covers. So different that they were almost unrecognizable – or perhaps people are not just used to seeing both celebrities in exuding such elegance and glamour. The question that netizens were asking: are the covers doctored and made up using the latest Photoshop technology or was it really just the make-up and styling that is responsible for the two celebrities’ new look?
Although the editors of the magazines have admitted to using Photoshop in the artwork that goes into their pages, they claimed that nothing more than touch ups were made on the magazine photographs. Vince Uy, creative director for Preview magazine, said that “we don’t deny that we use Photoshop. That already, I think, in this day and age, it’s already a common practice. But, we can say that we didn’t overuse it.” In an online magazine site, the editors and stylists of both magazines have uploaded the videos and working stills to show that there is not much difference between how the two really looked while they were shooting and how their cover photographs eventually turned out.
Charice who appeared on Preview’s January 2012 issue was looking particularly beautiful and glamorous without much of the facial roundness and chubbiness that she has been known for. According to the make-up artist for the cover shoot, Juan Sarte, the cover photo of Charice has not been digitally altered. It is, he said, the styling of the hair that made her look thinner and more mature. Jinkee, on the other hand looked thinner and taller in the cover of Mega magazine’s January 2012 issue with her waist-cinching belted tailored button-up suit dress. Mega magazine’s Suki Salvador, creative director, attributes Jinkee’s sophisticated glamour look to “photography, styling, and hair and make-up magic.”
