BPO strengthens for 2012: reports reveals BPO strengthens for 2012: reports reveals

According to studies, the PHL remains dominant in the BPO industry; may continue to do so

Technology investment and research firm Tholons reported that Philippines is still top gun when it comes to BPO destinations. The report tags the Philippines as “dominant” in reference to the outsourcing industry. Particularly, it cited Manila in the fourth spot of their Top 100 followed by Cebu at the 9th slot. Davao City was also in the list at the 69th rank, the 86th slot is occupied by Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Iloilo at the 92nd spot. However, the top three cities are situated in India with the country occupying about 13 slots in the Top 100.

As for future growth, the research also predicts excellent upward movement for the PHL BPO industry. The niche would remain strong although other areas like Europe would be developing their BPO industry into something that could resemble the Philippine setting.

So far, the BPO industry in the country has generated as much as 11 billion dollars during the year 2011. This was 20% more than last year’s generated income and if the upward trajectory continues, more might be in the cards.

Right now, the growth rate of call center agents within Metro Manila is at 10.6 percent. Major technology brands such as Teleperformance, IBM, HP, Dell and Convergys have also set up in the country, furthermore boosting the employment rate in the city. As of now, it is estimated that the BPO industry has about 500,000 Filipinos on their payroll.

With the BPO industry gaining momentum, Filipinos are getting more and more reasons to stay within the country while still earning excellent salaries. Reports indicate that with the salaries received by Pinoy’s in the BPO industry, any reasons for going abroad are dashed because the rates are basically the same. In fact, PH rates are better than those of Indian call center agents, one of the top providers in the BPO industry.
